Groundwater contamination threat to Columbia River reduced by innovative projects
The Hanford Site in Washington, previously used for nuclear research, has contaminated groundwater moving towards the Columbia River. Efforts are underway to reduce and redirect remaining discharges to prevent further contamination. By 1997, four projects will be in place to treat and dispose of the remaining discharges, with three projects operational by 1995. These actions aim to minimize the impact on groundwater from the Hanford Site.
