Amphipods Survive Extreme Salinity and Temperature, Adapting to Changing Environments.
The amphipod Corophium triaenonyx can survive in a wide range of salinity levels, from very low to very high. They are most comfortable living in salinities between 4‰ and 55‰. Changes in salinity don't affect their survival much. They can also handle temperatures from 5°C to 40°C, with gradual changes in temperature helping them survive better. They can even survive up to 46°C if the temperature increases slowly. The size and sex of the amphipods don't seem to affect how long they can survive.
