Intercropping Potato and Maize Boosts Yields and Profitability Significantly
Researchers conducted a field experiment to determine the best way to grow potatoes and maize together. They tested different planting patterns and timings to see how it affected the crop yields. They found that while growing the crops together reduced potato yield, it increased maize yield and overall profit. Planting maize in rows 67.5 cm apart resulted in the highest yields and profits. Sowing maize 25 days after planting potatoes also led to better yields. Overall, planting maize and potatoes together can be more profitable than growing them separately, as long as the right spacing and timing are used.
