A cooling strategy was tested in a large office building to reduce peak cooling needs. By precooling the building before peak times, the strategy successfully limited the peak load to 75% of capacity, saving money compared to buying an extra chiller unit. The cost of installing an additional chiller was estimated at $500,000, while precooling could save around$25,000 per month during peak cooling season. The approach was tested on two identical buildings, with the one using precooling operating more efficiently than the other.
