Black Bengal goat breeding crisis threatens rural livelihoods in Bangladesh.
The study looked at how Black Bengal goats are bred and perform in rural areas of Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Data was collected from 100 goat owners on factors like number of goats, breeding practices, and kid mortality. Most farmers rely on natural mating and castrate male kids due to odor and management issues. The average litter size was 1.76 and kid mortality rate was 12.88%. There is a shortage of breeding bucks in rural areas, which could be a problem for goat farming in the country.
