Cultured Fish Have Higher Fat Content Than Wild Fish Species
The researchers compared the fat and fatty acid compositions of wild and farmed common dentex, brown meagre, and sharp-snout sea bream. They found that farmed fish had higher fat content in all species. Cultured sharp-snout sea bream had more specific fatty acids than wild ones. Cultured common dentex had higher levels of certain fatty acids compared to wild ones. Cultured brown meagre also had higher levels of specific fatty acids than wild ones. Overall, farmed fish had higher levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids, while wild fish had higher levels of saturated fatty acids.
