New grass species reduce invasive kikuyugrass, transforming turf landscapes.
Tall fescue and perennial ryegrass can help reduce kikuyugrass invasion in lawns. Planting these grasses at a higher seeding rate can improve their establishment. Tall fescue is better at stopping kikuyugrass spread compared to perennial ryegrass. Newer tall fescue cultivars like ‘Bonsai,’ ‘Falcon,’ and ‘Olympic’ are more effective at reducing kikuyugrass invasion than older cultivars like ‘Fawn’.
