Icelandic drinking water found to be of high quality, minimal health risks.
The study evaluated the quality of drinking water in Iceland by analyzing samples from 79 aquifers. Results showed that 99.97% of health-related chemicals and 99.44% of indicator parameters met regulatory standards, indicating high water quality with minimal health risks. Some water systems showed signs of pollution, either from human activities or surface water intrusion. Comparing samples to natural background levels helped identify potential pollution sources early on. Overall, Icelandic groundwater used for drinking water is generally safe and meets quality standards.
