Revolutionizing crop productivity in drylands with optimal nutrient and tillage strategies.
Water and fertilizer are important for growing crops in dry areas. A method called ridge and furrow planting helps use rainwater better, but the right amount of fertilizer for foxtail millet in this method wasn't known. By testing different fertilizer levels in 2014 and 2015, researchers found that using the ridge and furrow method with a specific amount of fertilizer (F2) led to better soil moisture, plant growth, and grain yield compared to traditional flat planting. This method also used water more efficiently and gave higher economic benefits. So, for growing foxtail millet in semi-arid areas, using the ridge and furrow method with the right amount of fertilizer (F2) is recommended for higher productivity and efficiency.
