New Varieties of Agropyron cristatum Discovered in Iran's Flora.
Two new varieties of Agropyron cristatum L. species have been discovered in Iran through a review of the GaertnerAgropyron genus. The researchers identified a new subspecies (Agropyron cristatum subsp. pectinatum var. minor) and a new variety (Agropyron cristatum subsp. hamadanicum) in western Iran (Hamedan). The new variety has shorter stems, delicate spikes, and shorter glumes and lemma compared to Agropyron cristatum subsp. pectinatum var. pectinatum. The new subspecies has shorter stems, long and thin roots, longer spikes, glumes, and lemma compared to Agropyron cristatum subsp. pectinatum and Agropyron cristatum subsp. incanum.
