Soil salinity boosts tomato plant resilience to sulfur fumigation stress.
Soil salinity can help tomato plants handle too much sulfur fumigation stress. When tomato seedlings were exposed to excessive sulfur fumigation with or without pre-treated salt in the soil, the ones with salt treatment showed less damage. They had higher leaf mass, more chlorophyll and carotenoids, better photosynthesis, and healthier chlorophyll fluorescence systems. The plants pre-treated with salt were protected from the harmful effects of too much sulfur. This shows that salt stress can help plants deal with extreme sulfur fumigation stress.
