By viewing this process through the lens of Axiomatic Design, it becomes clear that experienced engineers are naturally skilled at this task, even without formal knowledge of this design theory. The research introduces an Axiomatic Design perspective for creating dimensional tolerances by showing that the traditional method already aligns with key design principles, like the independence and minimum information rules.
