Effluent Treatment Plant Revolutionizes Paper Board Industry Sustainability and Profitability.
The paper board industry faces environmental challenges due to high water use and waste production. A study evaluated an effluent treatment plant's performance, focusing on wastewater and sludge characteristics. Factors like pH, oxygen levels, and nutrient addition were crucial for treatment. Wastewater had high levels of solids and oxygen demand, while treated effluent met regulatory standards for reuse in manufacturing. The plant's costs were estimated at 700 lakhs for setup and 180 lakhs annually for operation. Recycling treated effluent and using sludge for board manufacturing and composting were found to be sustainable practices for economic and ecological benefits.
