Birds in the Canadian boreal forest respond differently to burns and clear cuts. Forest managers suggest mimicking natural fire patterns by leaving some live trees on clear cuts and shaping cutblocks like fire patterns. The assumption that bird responses to clear cuts are similar to burns was evaluated. Bird assemblages in burns and recent clear cuts in Alberta and Quebec were compared.
