New study reveals alarming levels of sediment export in Daly River
The report presents a detailed analysis of sediment and nutrient flow in the Daly River catchment. Using models to estimate sediment and nutrient sources, transport, and deposition, the researchers found that the catchment exports around 503 kt of fine sediment per year. By calibrating the model with observational data, they were able to accurately predict erosion rates, tributary contributions, and floodplain deposition rates. The study highlights the importance of understanding how sediments and nutrients move through river systems to better manage water quality and ecosystem health.
