Fungus Produces Record-Breaking Enzyme, Revolutionizing Sustainable Waste Management
A new fungus called Trametes sp. LS-10C was found that can make laccase, a useful enzyme. Scientists made the fungus produce laccase in big amounts by using a special mix of nutrients. They found the laccase works best at pH 4.0–4.5 and 40°C. The purified laccase is around 65 kDa in size. Among different substances tested, laccase worked best with ABTS, breaking it down the fastest. They also found that laccase can work well for a long time before wearing out.
