Ecological protection leads to significant forest growth in Nianchu River basin.
Land use changes in the Nianchu River basin were studied using remote sensing and GIS techniques. The researchers found that a significant amount of grassland, water bodies, and barren land were converted to forest land between the 1980s and 2000 due to ecological protection efforts. Changes were more pronounced near the main stream of the river. The main drivers of these changes were ecological restoration and urbanization.
