Unmanaged Moso Bamboo Forests in Taiwan Show Surprising Growth Trends
Moso bamboo forests in central Taiwan were studied from 2008 to 2014. The researchers looked at how dense the bamboo stands were, how fast they were growing, and how much biomass they had. They found that the bamboo forests had varying densities and diameters, with the average diameter decreasing over time. The number of small bamboo plants increased, and the older bamboo had a lot of biomass. Overall, the unmanaged bamboo forests showed changes in growth characteristics over the years.
