Sperm delivery without medium could enable new fertility options
The researchers wanted to see how storing mouse sperm from the cauda epididymis at different temperatures and without transport medium affects sperm quality and fertility. They found that sperm quality was better in fresh sperm compared to transported sperm. Sperm stored at 4-8 degrees Celsius had similar motility to fresh sperm, but sperm stored at room temperature had lower motility. Using transport medium improved sperm motility at 4-8 degrees Celsius. Storing sperm at 4-8 degrees Celsius without transport medium was best for maintaining fertility. Storing sperm at room temperature without medium still produced viable embryos for offspring.
