Public Sector Workers Less Likely to Switch Jobs, Even in Tough Times
This study investigates whether people who work in government or nonprofit sectors switch jobs less often compared to those in private sectors. The researchers used data from two surveys to see if public sector employees are more satisfied with their jobs than private sector workers, making them less likely to switch. They looked at job changes during normal times and during the Great Recession to understand the impact of tough economic conditions. The results show that public sector workers are indeed less likely to leave their sector than private sector workers. Additionally, differences were found between government and nonprofit sectors compared to the private sector. This research sheds light on why people might stay in their jobs, even when the economy is struggling.
