Homeowners Slash Heating Bills by 50% with Passive Solar Design
A passive solar heating system uses sunlight to heat buildings through large windows and special building materials. This can reduce heating bills by up to 50%. The system also includes natural ventilation for cooling and shading to reduce summer heat. In this study, a thermal mass floor made of stone chips was used to store heat energy from the sun, keeping rooms warm during the day and night. An innovative overhang design was also implemented to prevent overheating in the summer. The researchers focused on using low-cost materials for construction while achieving comfortable results.
