Lotus species show earlier flowering and faster seed development under same conditions.
The researchers studied the flowering and seed development of different Lotus plants. They found that Lotus pedunculatus flowers earlier than Lotus corniculatus and Lotus tenuis. The tetraploid Lotus pedunculatus also develops seeds faster than the diploid species. Despite identifying peak flowering times and seed development rates, bad weather prevented them from determining the best time to harvest the seeds in the field.
