The study used a method called empirical orthogonal function (EOF) to look at where and when fires happen in Southeast Asia. They found that in some areas, fires happen all year round and don't follow a specific season. This is especially true in places where land is being changed quickly. The fires don't seem to be linked to things like El-Nino weather patterns.
