Lysimeter Measurements Reveal Soybean Irrigation Needs Exceed Estimates, Boosting Crop Yields
The researchers evaluated different methods to estimate how much water is used by standard crops and soybean plants. They compared the estimates from a lysimeter, an evaporimeter pan, and a computer model. The results showed that the lysimeter method gave higher estimates for both standard and crop water use compared to the other methods. The soybean plants grew best with a yield of 10.73 grams of seeds per 100 seeds. The researchers suggest further studies to improve the lysimeter method for measuring water use in plants.
