Jurassic delta discovery in China unveils new oil exploration opportunities.
Shallow-water braided deltas in the Jurassic period of Western China have been studied to understand their sedimentary characteristics. These deltas, found in the Junggar basin, had coarse grains, large cross-beddings, and unique distributary channels. They prograded towards the central basin with sandstone making up a high percentage of the deposits. The research suggests that these deltaic deposits could be good locations for finding oil and gas reserves in the Junggar Basin.
