Certainty in Attitudes: Advocacy Peaks at High, Dips at Moderate Levels
The article explores how people's certainty about their attitudes affects how much they advocate for those attitudes. The researchers found that there is a J-shaped curve relationship between attitude certainty and advocacy. This means that people are most likely to advocate strongly when they are very certain about their beliefs, less likely when they are moderately certain, and more likely again when they are uncertain. This pattern was seen in both intentions to advocate and actual advocacy behavior in three different studies.
