The study looked at how different plants used as green manure affect nitrogen movement in sandy loam soil. Lupine plants caused more nitrogen loss than red clover. Planting red clover and oil radish in the fall reduced nitrogen leaching in winter. However, using catch crops for green manure didn't significantly increase nitrogen levels in deeper soil layers compared to leaving cereal stubble.
