Industrial and automobile emissions worsen air quality in Coimbatore City
The goal of the study was to assess the air quality in Coimbatore city by measuring the Air Quality Index (AQI) and comparing it to standard values. The researchers measured four major air pollutants (PM10, PM2.5, SO2, and NO2) at different times of the year. They found that industrial and automobile emissions are the main sources of pollution in the city, with summer having higher pollution levels than monsoon. The industrial area had the highest pollution levels, followed by commercial and residential areas. Overall, the city's air quality was in the moderate category, but the industrial area needs stricter measures to reduce particulate matter. This study provides valuable data for future research on air quality in the region.
