Poverty Traps Himalayan Farmers, Agroforestry Offers Resilience Against Climate Change
The study looked at how small farmers in the Himalayas are affected by climate change. They created an index to measure vulnerability, considering factors like exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity. They found that households practicing agroforestry were better able to adapt to climate change due to specific benefits from agroforestry. However, many small farmers don't practice agroforestry because of limited land. Poverty was identified as a major factor contributing to vulnerability. The study suggests that addressing poverty and other issues like education and employment can help small farmers cope with climate change in the future.
