New Study Reveals How Coal Composition Impacts Combustion Behavior
Six different types of bituminous coals were studied to see how they burn. The coals with more vitrinite and liptinite lost more weight when burned compared to coals with more inertinite. Coals with a lot of inertinite burned slower because of their strong structure. The size of the coal particles didn't always affect how much weight was lost when burned. Overall, the type of coal and how cooked it is (vitrinite reflectance) are important factors in predicting how it will burn.
