Climate change and human activities drastically reduce runoff and sediment load.
The study looked at how runoff and sediment load in a catchment in China have changed over time. They found that both runoff and sediment load have decreased significantly, with abrupt changes in 1979 and 1996. Climate variability and human activities both played a role in these changes, with human activities having a larger impact. Soil and water conservation efforts were found to be important in reducing runoff and sediment load in the catchment.
