The goal of the study was to improve how self-adaptive software systems make plans to handle changes in requirements and the environment. The researchers enhanced traditional rule-based planning with a rule generation and evolution process. This new approach allows the system to efficiently create adaptation plans while also being able to deal with unexpected changes during runtime.
