Boosting Summer Lamb Gains with Corn Supplementation on Pasture
The study looked at how different diets affected the growth of lambs during the summer. Lambs on pasture alone grew slower than those on pasture with corn or in a dry lot. Lambs on pasture with corn had similar carcass quality to those in a dry lot, but the dry lot lambs grew faster. The decline in pasture quality affected the growth rate of lambs, with better pasture quality leading to faster growth. Overall, the study showed that with the right supplemental feed, lambs can reach a good weight and grade during the summer.
