Abalones are marine mollusks important for food, but their slow growth is a problem. Scientists are breeding different abalone species in Korea, China, and Japan to create hybrids with better traits for farming. Six abalone species in Korea are being studied for their potential in aquaculture. By mixing these species, researchers hope to develop new abalone varieties with desirable characteristics.
