Revolutionizing soil moisture predictions for large catchments with new model.
The study used a computer model called Hydrus 1-D to predict soil moisture levels in two areas near the Goulburn River in NSW. They found that factors like soil type, leaf area, and depth affect soil moisture levels. By adjusting these factors, the model could accurately predict soil moisture at different sites. The model worked best for the top 30cm of soil. They were able to extend their predictions to a larger area with similar soil and vegetation, showing that the model could be used to predict soil moisture in larger regions.
