Apricot fruit from lower canopy areas are smaller and less sweet than fruit from upper canopy areas. Researchers tested using reflective cloth and adjusting fruit distribution to improve fruit quality. Reflective cloth increased light in lower canopy, making fruit heavier and sweeter, but still not as good as upper canopy fruit. Adjusting fruit distribution by moving fruit from lower to upper canopy increased the number of larger, sweeter fruit by 15%. These methods could help improve fruit quality in older, shaded apricot trees.
