Hybrid japonica rice development in China aims to increase rice production and ensure food security. Researchers have improved hybrid seed production by enhancing stigma exsertion and utilizing heterosis. They have also developed models for making hybrid combinations based on different heterotic groups of parental lines. These advancements have led to significant progress in increasing the yield and quality of hybrid japonica rice in China.
