New Flood Forecasting Model for Kelantan River Basin Improves Accuracy
Floods are a big problem in Malaysia, affecting millions of people. Scientists are using a special model called Probabilistic Distribution Moisture Model (PDM) to predict floods in the Kelantan river basin. They found that the model worked well for December 2014 but underestimated the peak flows. They also looked at soil moisture and flood plains to better understand flooding. By using this model, scientists hope to improve flood forecasting and reduce uncertainty in predicting floods.
