Are Hedge Funds Risking Workers' Retirement Savings?
Pension funds in the U.S. are increasingly investing in hedge funds, with 24% of corporate pension funds doing so in 2006. This is up from 19% in 2004 and 12% in 2000. However, there are concerns about the risky nature, lack of oversight, and recent losses associated with hedge funds. In 2006, 2.1% of total corporate pension fund assets were allocated to hedge funds.
