Organic amendments boost rice yield and phosphorus efficiency in long-term rotation.
The study looked at how adding organic materials like farm yard manure and green manure to rice crops affects yield and phosphorus use in soil over many years. They found that using these organic sources along with traditional nutrients increased rice yield significantly. The plots with organic amendments showed better uptake and efficiency of phosphorus compared to the control plots. The control plots had a negative phosphorus balance, while the organically amended plots had a positive balance. This positive trend in rice yield was maintained because of the buildup of phosphorus from the organic inputs.
