Climate change and societal demands drive increase in timber harvesting in Sweden.
The study looked at how climate change and changing demands for forest services affect land use in Sweden. They used a model called CRAFTY-Sweden to predict future changes in ecosystem services provided by forests. The results show that socio-economic factors and human behavior have a bigger impact on land use than climate change. The simulations suggest that timber harvesting will increase in the future, but there may be a mismatch between supply and demand for forest services. This highlights the challenge of meeting society's needs for ecosystem services over time. The study emphasizes the importance of understanding how different factors influence ecosystem service provision in forestry.
