Southern Mexico's San Luis Potosi Plateau Facing Desertification Threat.
The researchers studied if the southern edge of the Chihuahuan Desert in Mexico is turning into a desert. They looked at satellite images from 1990 to 2011 and analyzed factors like vegetation, water, iron content, and temperature. They found that most of the area is not becoming a desert, but about 8.80% has a high chance of desertification. The western part of the region is the most affected, while the east and south are less affected. Overall, the desert is slowly advancing, but most of the area is not at risk of desertification.
