Households in Hanoi struggle with proper organic waste separation, study finds.
Properly managing food waste is important, especially in developing countries like Vietnam. A program in Hanoi encourages households to separate organic waste, but only 13.8% of households are doing it. Many people are still mixing organic and inorganic waste together. About 41.5% of the organic waste collected is actually contaminated with inorganic waste. The city needs to get more people to separate their waste correctly and stop others from mixing it improperly. The researchers suggest different scenarios for how households could behave in the future to help improve the program.
