Constructed wetlands in Turkey show promise in treating rural wastewater effectively.
A constructed wetland system was tested in Turkey to clean up rural wastewater. They used plants like Phragmites and Typhia to filter out pollutants like COD, BOD5, TSS, NH4 + -N, and NO3 ¯ -N. The results showed that the wetland removed a good amount of contaminants: COD (48-94%), BOD5 (72-96%), TSS (94-98%), and NH4 + -N (68-87%). This means that wetlands could be a useful way to treat wastewater from rural areas.
