Genomic selection is changing how dairy cattle breeding is done, speeding up genetic progress by up to 100%. By using genomic tests, farmers can choose the best replacement animals more accurately, leading to economic benefits on the farm. The study looked at different strategies for selecting replacement heifers and calculated the maximum cost that justifies using genomic tests for this purpose. The findings show that genomic selection can greatly improve breeding decisions and increase profits for dairy farms.
