The study aimed to predict how genetic improvement of the Ashanti Black pig in Ghana could benefit the pig industry. They looked at traits like number of pigs weaned, back fat thickness, weight at slaughter, and muscle depth. They found that improving these traits can bring economic value to the industry, with weaning more pigs per sow being the most important. Using certain selection strategies can lead to higher returns compared to focusing on just one trait. Overall, genetic improvement of the Ashanti Black pig could significantly boost the pig industry in Ghana.
