Extreme precipitation trends in China's Huaihe River Basin impacting flood risk.
The study looked at extreme precipitation in the Huaihe River basin in China from 1961 to 2010. They found that the amount of extreme rainfall varies across the basin, with higher intensity in the middle and central areas. Some stations showed increasing annual precipitation, especially in the central to northern parts. Summer rainfall had a larger range of changes, which could affect flooding and drought. Winter rainfall increased, potentially helping with agricultural drought relief. Rainy days decreased in some areas, while extreme precipitation days and intensity increased. These changes are influenced by geographic differences and the East Asian Summer Monsoon. The findings can help with decision-making and managing the Huaihe River basin.
