Urban planning policies aimed at creating energy efficient urban forms have not been entirely successful in Europe and North America. Despite efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable urban metabolism, issues like urban sprawl and long car commutes persist. The study examines why these policies have fallen short and suggests new principles for more effective sustainable urban planning.
