Straw addition boosts soil fungi, accelerates decomposition for healthier ecosystems!
The study looked at how adding straw to soil affects the types and activity of fungi living in the soil. They found that the fungi in the soil increased in number and became more dominant when straw was added regularly. This led to a higher ratio of carbon to nitrogen in the soil, showing that the fungi were adapting to the straw. As a result, the soil was able to break down straw more quickly. So, adding straw to soil can change the types of fungi present and make them better at breaking down straw.
