New method reduces storage time for bridge girders, saving time and money.
The study looked at making strong bridge girders with a concrete deck that can stretch across many sections. By using special supports called diaphragms, the girders can be connected and stored for a shorter time while still meeting safety standards. A specific reinforcement method was found to work well for most girders, but some larger ones needed extra support. The spacing between girders and the strength of the concrete also affect how long they need to be stored. By adding up certain loads, engineers can quickly check if the girders need to be stored for 90 days or less.
